What do you mean 'not really'? .22 LR rounds are much lighter (but less effective) than .50 cal rounds. .50 cal rounds contain much more gunpowder and metal and stuff than .22 LR rounds. That means you can carry more .22 LR rounds than .50 cal rounds (at least depending on the situation).
But I don't want to argue with that now. Check wikipedia or something...

I'm pretty sure he knows that. I think the point is that nobody is going to carry around a few thousand rounds of any calibre.

Am I the only one who thinks that firearms are extremely ineffective against zombies?

You do realize that weapons don't have unlimited ammo like they do in the movies right? An assault rifle on full auto = less than 3 seconds to fire an entire magazine. Handguns are only useful in close quarters, shooting at anything 45m away is a waste of ammo. Speaking of ammo, most handguns carry 7-20 rounds.

Fire arms are effective. But they have major tactical disadvantage over silent melee weapons.

And what it comes to Assault Rifles. One carries around 30 bullets per magazine, and they usually have semi automatic firing mode, which is far more
effective against both zombies and other humans.

Ammo might be issue until you are able to access military hardware, which might be not that hard here in Finland. And luckly there is military base right next where I live. Full AK
magazine weights around 300-400 grams which is not that much. But if you plan to carry over 300 rounds, it starts to get heavy.

They told us in army that during war, our "special/irregular jaegers" would be issued with 9 magazines, which is good 3,4 kilos.

My awesome plan is to buy good sharpened katana once I have enough extra money, While not the perfect melee weapon. But damn I'm
going to do it with style. And those things look quite nice on the wall as well.

Aquire some kind of blunt object like a hammer, (since I won't have to worry about a blunt object getting dull.) then hopefully go to an elementary school that is very close and easily defendible because it is one of those schools surrounded by high fences. We could take all the useful supplies to the second floor then clog all ut one staircases with desks and stuff then keep the unclogged one locked with the sturdy metal doors. (Atleast I think they were metal lol, been a lng time since I was in elementary school.)

So clearly if somehow the guys on BGSF team up, we'd all be screwed. We'd probably spend most of the time arguing, asking each other for medical / relationship advice, or discussing each others' Morrowind characters (or ponies.)

So whatever I do, I'd make sure I do it alone. I actually wanna live, dammit! In every movie it's the 'failure to communicate' that gets them killed in the end (if they do get killed in the end).

Hold on, what kind of zombies are we talking here? Classic Night of the Living Dead zombies? Or 28 Days Later zombies?

Either way, I'll just pack a whole bunch of supplies and get myself on a boat. A fishing rod and a water-filtering thingy would be useful... But say I'm holed up on the mainland, I shall either become an hero or "TH1S IZ SP4RTAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!111eleven111111111" with a katana (if there happens to be one in the vicinity). I'll just "ninja assassin" all those zombies. (Yes, ninja assassin is a verb now. Urban dictionary said so.)

28 Days Later technically aren't zombies since the infected don't actually die before rising again. They simply turn while still alive. Also, Katanas are nice but you can only crease so many skulls until you break the blade on a wall.

Ammo is heavy, how much do you think you can carry?

"Oh my GOD, the hottest zombie chick EVER just limped by!!" "Dude, JAHO." "But what if I get zombie AIDS?" "Don't worry, my grandfather's cat's litterbox's carpenter's wife's goldfish's ex-owner is a doctor, and he said that zombie AIDS isn't dangerous. So it's cool."

If there's anything I've learned from L4D it's that you shouldn't abandon your team and hide in the safe room because Tanks can destroy safe room doors. *Sigh* :sadvaultboy:

My zombie plan would have to rely on melee weapons sadly since I live in a country with pretty tight gun control so finding anything like that is unlikely.

Actually it's relatively common, the only problem is any other survivors would be after it as well, and aside from gun shops, army installations and police stations, you would be unlikely to just find them in abandoned houses.

How long your ammo would last would really depend on how resistant to bullets the zombies were, and how many of them were about.

By the time you get a clip out of the backpack and into the gun, you'll be zombie food. If you can even run with all that weight. The important thing is to stay on the move, and fast. You can be hauling all the ammo on Earth but that's not gonna help you unless you're at a decent distance from the zombies.

So basically, yeah I think isolation is the key to survival in case of a zombie apocalypse.

Fighting against entire army of bad guys are you? :D

3 - 4 mags should be enough, rest of ammo is better to store in your backpack. 15 mags hanging around your vest will just slow you down. And all of that
ammo will just take space for more important stuff like food, water and other survival gear.

I have one of http://www.rusmilitary.com/images/m22_vest_od.jpg.
M22 assault vest for Russian special forces. If zombie outbreak happens, I just take that and find myself one of those RK62 Assault Rifles the local
military is using.

I carried all of that last week. I have 5 mags in my gun and tac vest then 10 in a drop pouch so its easily accessible. The extra 1000 rounds is so my section could reload our mags in a break in the fire fight, and honestly once the adrenaline got pumping I didn't even notice the weight. It was the walk to the fight that svcked balls.
I worded the first post oddly looking back.

Such load of ammo is not impossible to carry around. It is just impractical during such scenario what zombie outbreak is. You are not likely
to working with people who are willingly to carry some stuff for you or act like professional soldiers. And you need to carry everything you need to survive. That counts everything, not only weapons and ammo.

It is possible to store some of the stuff into car or bike, but I would not resort to that. And most important thing is to move silently and fast which 1000 rounds of extra ammo wont make easy :)

I have to disagree. Living in a rural area and working at a such a small unit I doubt most of my friends would run off by themselves especially when most of them have time overseas. And remember that the whole objective would be to become self efficient in the most secure way possible, the long term goal that everyone wants to achieve.
And frankly when you look at it 1000 rounds weigh less than our body armour, or atleast it feels like it.

Indeed, it is highly dependent where you live.

Over here is not that much people either, but enough to be scared about hordes of zombies. So my first objective would be find a remote location where there is not
much people around and salvage considerable amount of weapons, ammo and supplies. That would actually be pretty easy around here.

Yeah, a lot of it depends on where you live. As, if you live in a huge city you might as well call it quits, if you don't get out the day of the outbreak.

Aim for the legs, aim for the legs. No zombies are coming after me with no legs.

Why put two in the legs when you can just put one through the head? And they can still crawl towards you.

Didn't we already establish that a zombie apoc wouldn't be much to worry about since the zombies would actually be easier to kill than humans?
