Zoomed out 3rd person camera

Post » Sat Sep 05, 2009 4:25 am

I'm looking for a mod that zooms out the camera farther in third person view. Does such a mod exist? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am assuming you mean more than using the scroll wheel on the mouse can produce.

Honestly, I can't really think of any mod that has done this, nor do I know if it would be possible outside of the Code Patch (which has consequently adjusted the 3rd person camera to be more "over the shoulder" in style and form).

>.>

My scroll wheel doesn't zoom out. >.< I'd like a mod with a further zoom option as well.

No, you're not imagining things. The mouse wheel zooms in & out when the tab key is pressed.

I'll have to check my controls, but it does not do that for me. I tried every combination possible for some screenies. All I get is the closeup of my char's back. :/

You have to keep pressing tab. Then scroll down to zoom out.

Code patch has found the third person camera location in memory. So a little MGE programming can get a customizable third person camera position. More than a little MGE programming can get a free camera with mouse control. :) But no one is working on that implementation, AFAIK.

I did try TAB + Scroll, since I was turning around using TAB to check different angles. As I said, I'll have to check my controls, I probably changed something.

You might want to check with Darknut - he found a way to adjust the 3rd-person camera and utilized that method for his '1st Person Enhanced' mod, although his mod repositions the camera to approximately the same fixed location as in 1st-person mode. His method could be used to create a new mod that would allow the camera to be moved further back from the player.

Otherwise, it's a matter of manually adjusting the camera range each game session after getting into character view mode (in-game 'Options' >> 'Controls' tab >> 'Toggle View' key).

With the over-the-shoulder 3rd-person-view patch from the Morrowind Code Patch installed, the camera is locked to a preset range behind the player. You need to hold down the key you use for 3rd-person view to then get to the standard MW 3rd-person view - once there the mouse scroll wheel can be used to modify the 3rd person camera range, however that won't change the MCP over-the-shoulder preset camera range.

You could use the Macro editor in http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1069111 to bind a key to always hold down the 3rd-person view key - there are some drawbacks to doing this tho: mouse movements change to control the camera viewpoint around the player in character view mode, so you lose the ability to turn the player in a new direction; you still need to manually set the 3rd-person camera range each game session once in that character view mode using the mouse scroll wheel.

[edit] and there's also the possible MGE solution vtastek mentioned. -_-

Oh, snap. Could a Diablo-style isometric camera be possible?

I've spent the last year playing Oblivion, so I'm trying to adjust to this game.

I take it most people then do not play in third person and prefer first? Maybe all the screenshots are just vanity shots and that actual game play in 3rd is not common?

I tried the code patch and the distance was way way to close to the character. Me no likey - found this thread.

It seems though even with the Code patch removed (well that patch not the whole MCP) it is not possible to set third person to a specific range behind the player.
