ZOS are listening - phasing being looked at

Post » Sat Mar 08, 2014 8:31 pm

So I don't know how many of you guys read the Elder Scrolls Online subreddit, but a PTS (permanent beta) player has shared with us a post by Zenimax Creative Director, Paul Sage:

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to drop a line in to talk about some things coming to the game in the future that we thought you might want to know about. Of course, there is way more happening than what is listed here, with team busy on many initiatives including continued bug fixing, balancing, and other features. But these are things we can offer some tidbits on that you’ll hopefully be seeing soon. As with anything in development, things could change, so we are not guaranteeing these.

Adventure Zone – Craglorn and Trials We are going to be talking about this in lots of detail very soon. I know everyone is eager for details, and they will come soon.

FOV Slider There isn’t a lot to say about this feature that isn’t in the title, other than we will be adding it in. We know different people have different Field Of View settings which will make them comfortable, or just not nauseous.

Improved World Interactivity You will be able to pick up even more objects in the world, including picking up that sword or armor off the rack.

Death Recap In your darkest hour, we rub it in. Just kidding. When you die, you will now be informed of who or what killed you, what the last top five events were that contributed to your death, and offer some hints that might contribute to your success in the future. This will be a UI element that comes up when you die. We don’t want you to die, but if you do, we want you to be a better person for it.

Battle Level Off We're adding a toggle so you’ll be able to turn off battle leveling in Cyrodiil if you wish.

Exclusive Full Screen Mode In Digicolor. Okay, Digicolor isn’t really a thing, but exclusive full screen mode sounded so impressive, I thought I should embellish. Sorry about that.

Player Separation We know that group members can become separated in some of our content, and we are looking at ways to make sure you stay together with your group members. We are currently testing some solutions.

So there you go. Just a peek into what’s coming up, and really, that’s only a small portion of what we are working on. We’ll be announcing more in the upcoming weeks, and I’m looking forward to seeing you at launch.

Paul

This is only the most recent example of ZOS taking player feedback to heart, and adjusting their approach to please their audience. First example was probably adding in a first person mode, more recent examples include being able to skip the starter islands entirely, and giving players more bag space at the early levels.

Personally I think this is fantastic. They're absorbing all of the feedback, and making informed decisions based on that what would be best for the game going forward. Having played numerous MMOs (LOTRO, SWTOR, TSW, STO, Tera, GW2 to name a few) this is the best example I've seen of developers working with the community, I hope it continues and leads to bigger and better things!

"Improved World Interactivity You will be able to pick up even more objects in the world, including picking up that sword or armor off the rack."

I'm sold :D. Great dev's, finally making this happen, always found it disturbing that I looked at a skeleton with armor and a sword in it and just couldn't pick it... made no sense to me. Hopefully they reduce the amount of armor/weapon racks so that you don't get an infinite amount of items from these.

Thing is I've seen some epic looking pieces on racks and bodies in game, if I loot any of those and only get rawhide bracers I'll be pretty disappointed :D

Thats why I said that they should reduce them to not be as common.

Besides I find it hard to believe that they would have epic armor in racks in the starting islands/beggining area, the AD one comes to mind, some awesome looking yellow heavy armor, and some epic swords as well, why the hell would you be fighting with anything lower than that and keep that on display lol...

More stuff to break down is great and well I really don't need to know what killed me but maybe how to kill it...I just don't want to see stuff pop up like "Maybe you should of used a potion?" "Maybe you should of used snares?" "You faced a lvl 50 troll, what did you think would happen?"

Loved playing the ESO but it was very buggy, is there anywhere I can post to let the devs know what I encountered?

The build you played was at least a 2 or 3 months old build, the UI freezes have been fixed, the quest NPC spawning issues have been fixed, etc etc. The beta weekends are merely for stress-testing using a more server-stable but all-round buggier build.

I would really like confirmation of this first.

The person who posted it on reddit is on a new account, only has that post registered in his history.

/bug or /feedback in game. Or after beta you should've received an email asking you to fill out a feedback survey.

Maybe another PTS player or two can verify for us?

I hardly doubt Xabien wrote the original post and all of that so I'm assuming this is a Genuine from Paul Sage.

Whatever you were posting them, they know it allready. The BETAs that we played recently were not the latest versions. 14th of march will be better verion in the test and you shall see that it will be better.

"Improved World Interactivity You will be able to pick up even more objects in the world, including picking up that sword or armor off the rack."

Besides the performance worries, consequence of adding more collisions and interactive stuff, this is very nice and very TES. Now they need to add a per-character bank and a shared crafting bank.

Funny how so many MMO's can't realize what ZOS realizes. Listening to the community and intelligently making changes. If they keep this up, this game could do very well

ZOS is amazing for listening to what people want. None of this "we think it's more fun if you play like this" crap.

Thanks :). I copied/pasted it over from the original reddit thread (link at the bottom of it). I do hope it's genuine, it's an incredibly positive sign if it is

That would be disappointing, but there would have to be a game balance for sure. Players cant be looting epic ancient dragon armour of the gods, at level 1. But i do believe there should be a random chance to loot something special or at least better than normal quality, Geared towards your level range and level range of the zone your in, and very rare random chance. after all if the uba armour or weapons were laying around do you not think that another warrior, scholar or town guard would have snapped it up already.

Can you provide evidence to these fixes please? I have played in last 3 betas and the issue of the UI freezing after talking to a vendor or banker or random NPC was still in the game. if these issues had already been fixed do you not think that the patches we have to perform before each beta would have at least be implemented. If they have fixed them why not prove it to us and put them in the beta to show they are done?

Ah, fantastic. The Developers of this game are really impressing me with how much they actually listen

All goo dstuff, personally like the adjustment to player seperation as me and a friend found ourselves parted in another instance for certain quests, to our dismay. However I'm no quite sure what Battle Level is when he says you can turn it off in Cyrodiil, does that just mean your general Level so you can play Cyrodiil as much as you want without it affecting the PVE back home because when you come back you may be overlevelled?
