Is ZOS liying?(proof from interview)

Post » Wed Jan 29, 2014 8:48 pm

This morning I found out, that those 2 Dragon Knights chasing me in Cyrodil with their faster horses will catch me up and kill me because they paid 25 euros more for their game.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/the-elder-scrolls-online/artikel/the_elder_scrolls_online,44578,3026853.html

"The Elder Scrolls games are all about allowing the player to go where they want, be who they want"

I cannot be imperial if I buy the game for basic price 55 eur.

"We fell that putting pay gates between the player and the contect at any point in the game ruins that feeling of freedom"

This ruined feeling of freedom for countless players, with xp bonuses, speed mounts, can`t play imperial of I dont buy Imperial edition.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, they uncovered previously stated unplayable faction at release, though you can play Imperials if you buy CE. So if I dont buy CE, I cannot play every faction I want, even they said there wont by any paygates.

Also they said there won`t be any experience or other bonuses in the game.

Though we can see you can have bonus XP from the rings if you pre-order Imperial edition as well as special mount with increased speed.

Also Paul Said said ESO wont have any 10meters tall monsters where you will just stand and hit his legs, yet in newest trailer there is monster that looks like from Diablo III

What do you think?

The only point you have is the addition of the Imperial race.

Your freedom is not limited by other players receiving XP bonuses or having a differently-colored mount (the wording they've used is too vague to assume that it will move faster than other mounts). And I don't recall them ever saying that they flat-out would not offer any options that allowed players to get XP bonuses, etc.

Paul sage in interview said there will be no special bonuses in game at all....like experience, increased damage or something that would give you the upper hand above other players.

If one get those some type of items ingame (XP gains bounces, etc) I am fine with it. The other aspects I have to think about it -- think with one's mind, don't think with one's emotions.

I recall the interview where he said you would not be able to buy advantages, but increased XP gain (which will only be available between friends who both purchased the Imperial Edition) doesn't actually give you an advantage over other players. It just means you move a little faster through leveling content, which doesn't affect anyone else's game.

But you just said you are okay with cash shop. Example: I buy instant level 50 for 20euros. Is it fair? It wont interfere with your gameplay either......

But the rings only work when you'r leveling with a specific friend, and if you've ever tried leveling from 1 to max with one friend, you'd probably find that the amount of wasted xp/time redoing quests or doing nothing at all, arn't really worth the 10-15% that it's likely to be.

Honestly the only problem i see is if the imperial race has racial bonuses, that would be a problem. But nothing else is. Or well, different face options/hairstyles for imperials would also be a problem.

Instant leveling is not the same thing as leveling bonuses when playing with a specific friend. That said, if the insta-level didn't give you any special gear bonuses, etc., then no, I wouldn't mind. Those players would actually be at a severe disadvantage, so I wouldn't mind seeing them flounder around trying to find groups who would take them.

The rings of Mara have been mentioned before (in an AuA perhaps?). There is no indication they will be exclusive to the CE.

Every race will have it's own unique racial skills.

but OT,

Yeah, I guess I'm pumped at the kind of bonuses you'd get ordering CE. Before there was NO WAY to play any alliance/ any race, or an imperial at all. Now there is. I guess for me personally I'm happy. However I am sad for those who cannot get these due to financial restrictions, and hope that there isn't a whole giant list of things you gotta by with cash to get a full experience. I'm willing to drop a certain amount of money on this kind of game, but with some awesome things like this essentially being paid content, it concerns/ excites me what other kinds of content could potentially be behind a pay wall.

Well, let's see. Why are people (BAAAA) excited about preordering and the CE? Is it ONLY because of an outside game book and statue? NOPE. It's about an in-game exclusive race and items. They are knowingly paying EXTRA money for a unique race and bonus items. This is what f2p games do. Except you don't have to pay $60 retail for them.

Except subscription games have done this too. Cosmetic items, like mounts and pets, have almost always been offered with CEs, regardless of whether or not an MMO has a subscription fee.

You're ignoring the rings and more importantly the exclusive RACE! Please! Tell me what mmo started off with a full retail price, and locked a unique playable race behind a CE? WoW? EVE? GW2 (lol)?

*Raises hand*

I actually was first excited about the book and statue, and then scrolled down to see the digital stuff.

I like the menacing baby-holding Malog Bal, and all the concept art released thus far has been spectacular and I'd love to have a printed version.

So... yeah... now I'm also excited for that digital goodness, but was planning on getting the artbook/ statue either way.

Having fewer Imperials in the game doesn't really impact anyone else's play, and WoW started their RAF program fairly soon after Burning Crusade (unless it was during Wrath, but that's still quite some time ago). The XP bonus only applies when you are leveling with the friend who has the matching ring. It's not an across-the-board bonus, nor would it have an effect on other players if it were.

Pretty much this, this is common in F2P games, who cost $0 to play making it kind of fair as they has to get money somewhere.

Its not ok for an premium game.

An unique mount and pet would be an typical CE ingame bonus.

My guess is that the imperial race will become inclusive later on. However that does nothing for those that already rolled another race. Dexterous nailed me correctly, I bought the CE for exactly the reasons he stated. Edit/Note - Read another thread that says anyone can get the imperial race, you just have to buy it.

When I purchased the CE I got this.

Greetings X,

Thank you for purchasing The Elder Scrolls? Online Digital Imperial Edition. In addition to the Digital Imperial Edition, you’re now registered for The Explorer’s Pack, which includes the following digital rewards:

  • The ability to play as any race in any alliance
  • The Scuttler vanity pet
  • Exclusive treasure maps
  • Early game access

touche, there are some actual TES fans pre-ordering. I apologize for lumping you with the sheep. I'm just slightly annoying right now. EA...I mean Zenimax pulled a nasty one.

It's VERY interesting how ZOS is handling this. They are releasing, bit by bit, content that may anger people in a very clam yet sneaky way. It really is just good business.

This is a way to make a little more profit while adding extra content for people who REALLY want the game. On the other hand, it might make people a bit upset, but those people getting upset probably weren't very interested in buying the game in the first place.

Most of the exclusive items are negligible at best and really don't effect other players in any way. The Imperial special ability probably has something to do with dialogue, you can't be trampled by someone else horse and the ring of Mara are just an added benefit to the player.

Although I'm kinda unhappy about it, I will probably drop the extra $20 for the addition content -_-

We're all thrilled that you're here to decide who is ordering the CE for "legitimate" reasons.

I have zero interest in playing as an Imperial, the artbook and the map are the only reasons I might consider buying the CE. That said, making Imperials an exclusive race behind a paywall right at launch is [censored] ridiculous and significantly lowers my opinion of Zenimax.

I'd say "BAAAA" but that would be unproductive and off topic. I want these threads to remain open for as long as possible. ^^

So I shall say, you are totally entitled to spend your money on whatever you so choose for any reason you so choose. Do you disagree though that Zenimax wasn't telling the whole truth when they said that they wouldn't be putting game content behind a paywall?

If you consider "game content" to be a bunch of essentially cosmetic features, then yes, I agree that ZO are horrible, bad, awful people who deserve a stern talking to.

I've been playing the Elder Scrolls for well over a decade. I could not care less about people's reasons for getting a CE with some decent incentives.

On other forums you have 3-4 groups, the fans who will buy, the haters who either dislike the game, plays another MMO or hate the genre, the uninterested is also an group but not an target. Last we have the skeptics who might buy the game, they are the ones who is easy to turn. I was skeptic myself until I was in the beta.
They are the ones who can be moved by news or commercials and they generaly don't know much about the game.

Well today they learn that ESO is pay to win on various gaming forums, no its not technically accurate at least not today. But you can bet lots of hater will paint it that way.

In short ZOS will lose money on this move, has some calculations on it in another post. It might cost them 5% subscribers, that is more than the imperial edition will bring in.
